it’s really easy for something that sounds innocuous like “accountability”, to go too far
Slippery slopes:
- It's not "democratic" to let people donate to charities; everyone should have a say in what causes are important, not just the wealthy
- The government isn't allowed to jail authors who write stuff it doesn't like; or; authors are trying to avoid being held "accountable" for what they write
- What MLK did was both "undemocratic" (went against the will of the majority, and elected local government) and he wasn't "held accountable" for that infraction or the unrest he was causing
Corollary: is "internalize all externalities" a bad policy then? Seems to go all the way on the authoritarian axis. The problem is judging externalities. Seems very hard. Also long timescales.
