because

• people hate inflation (and they really could have done more)
• the illegal immigration is out of control (and they could have done more)
• the left has a culture of aliening people who less than 100% agree with them, and it worked
  • and they died on some weird hills for this, like supporting discrimination against asian college applicants, student loan forgiveness, etc that just weren’t popular

important point:

if you look at the 2020-2024 shift, Harris’s support held up much better in the seven swing states than it did on average nationally. To me, that’s pretty decent evidence that “the Harris campaign,” defined as a set of political operatives who stage rallies and make advertisements, performed pretty well. What performed poorly was the strategic positioning of the Democratic Party as background and the strategic positioning of Kamala Harris relative to that background.

i.e. Dem campaign executed better, but they’d spent the last four years undermining themselves
