nuclear waste becomes harmless unless ingested after 600 years, and also could have been re-refined

1 GW power plant produces about 1 refrigerator sized amount of waste per year

if 100% of US power was nuclear, it would fill 15 40ft shipping containers

this is tiny.

The volume of solid waste per unit power produced by a nuclear power is 100,000 times less than that produced by a coal plant.

spent fuel actually has a ton of really valuable reusable uranium, if we just let it chill for 75 years we could super safely extract it and use most of it again

I’m a bit less convinced of this though bc idk how refinement works. the U235 seems like the important scarce resource here? but I guess you can breed U238 into it? unclear. either way both seem necessary and you’ve got a lot of refined 238 going to waste
